I accompanied my girlfriend, Mac, and our mutual friend, Allie. (We missed you, Pat.)
Here are a few pics to give you some flavor of the event.

It started out pretty chilly on Saturday morning. Registration opened at 07:00.
Here are the ladies waiting to sign up to ride Ducatis. That's Allie on the left and Mac on the right.

Here's a shot of the riders' meeting.
You'll notice some guys mixed in the crowd. Femmoto draws plenty of male spectators.

First demo ride: Honda

Next stop: Kawasaki

In addition to the Ninja 500, Mac rode the new Versys.
She really liked it. Here she is trying to talk the Kawasaki rep into letting her take it home.

Couple of action shots...

Hyosung makes a pretty cool challenger to the SV650...

Ducati makes everyone playful...

They got mopey when it came time to give them back!...

Two stud muffins who had a great Saturday...

On Sunday it was time for dirt bike riding,
courtesy of Kawasaki. What a great set-up.

After two days of riding on the track and in the dirt,
everyone was tired and happy.

Great Pics Steven!!

I heard they instituted a no passing rule for the beg-int. group.  Guess the int-adv. group can still have fun!  I'd probably go nuts not passing.  Last year there were bottle necks with slow riders in the curves (I was a little bit patient then.... but not now!  Bwahahahah!!!).

I'm amazed it was cold!  Did it warm up and get hot later?

Those pics from the dirt bike class bring back excellent memories!!  God I loved that!!!!!!!!  At the end there is a huge hill you come up to ... unknowingly... and all of a sudden you're careening down a steep embankment (I screamed the whole way... for joy!!  or was that maniacal laughter??)

Mac and friend look so happy and spent at the end of that dirt day!

Thanks for sharing these.  You were such a wonderful help and so very supportive last year!!!

You know, Pat, all you have to do is sign up for the int-adv group. laughing

I think the more conservative rules were an improvement. There weren't any crashes in the novice group this year. This is good for the riders and for the manufacturers.

If you want to pass people, you can sign up for the intermediate group. If you don't have to pass people, but you still want some thrills, you can ride with the novices and leave a gap between yourself and the person in front of you, then speed up.

Of course no grouping system will be perfect, so I can see the logic behind erring on the side of safety.

Yup, both ladies loved the dirt riding... and I'm going to Mystery School this weekend. Woot!

Steven,

Does Mac know that the Kawasaki Versys is not available in CA? It didn't pass our smog standards. Maybe next year.

I flaked out on the Mystery School for this time-spent way too much $ this summer so the belt has been tightened a few notches. The weather will be perfect for you though! High 60s-mid 70s. I will be riding to San Diego with my wife and surfing while she goes to a seminar.

Have a great weekend! (as I know you will)

Hey Kip,

Sounds like we're both going to have great weekends.

Ride on!

Steven ← soon to be tightening his own belt -- why is it always around the holidays?!

PS: that's a 10-4 on the Versys being unavailable in California. Seems it's missing a tank vent for evap charcoal cannister thing. If it's as simple as redesigning the tank, then Kawi should be able to bring it to California soon. I spoke to a few women who rode it, and they all agreed it was a desireable bike.

Thanks, E.  I gotta say, Femmoto is probably the coolest moto promotion in the world.

Basically you pay $100, then you show up and ride five bikes of your choosing: Aprilia, Buell, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Honda, Hyosung, Kawasaki, Kymco, Suzuki... and the OEM's bring pretty much all of their bikes, from the Ninja 250 to the Hypermotard. The OEM's prep all the bikes and everything. All you have to do is show up and ride.

The only catch is, you have to be a woman.

Steven

PS: I didn't mention BMW in the list of participating OEM's above, but BMW of Las Vegas did have a booth. They offered street demo rides on a handful of models. I think I remember seeing a X-country, F800ST, and maybe a 650GS.
