Hello fellow BMW motorcycle aficionados! My name is Kit, and I live in the Philippines!
The idea of owning a BMW motorcycle first formed in my head in 1990, during my college years. I dreamt and drooled over an ad of a K100RS I spotted in a magazine and despaired on how I could possibly afford such a machine. The clean, functional and sophisticated lines of the bike in the picture convinced me that this would indeed be an upgrade to the relatively gas guzzling and lumbering automobile I presently used. So then I decided. This was not only a choice of machine but also a choice of lifestyle!
After much cajoling, begging and reassuring , however, I was only able to convince my benefactors to grant me a loan on a Yamaha DT125. The bike delivered on my limited gas allowance problem but had much to be desired in terms of pure oomph! But it did get me started on the lifestyle and 10 years later, I upgraded to another Yamaha, this time an FZR1000. This one had all the power I needed or cared for, as it still scares me to open it up wide nowadays! (please remember our main roads here are mere rivulets compared to the waterways of your Interstates.) (not to mention dodging all the obstacles and debris imaginable.)
I got my R1200GS Adventure in February 2007. After 17 years since I imagined it, I finally appreciate how it feels to own and operate an epitome of class, style and function in a motorcycle. Since I got it, I have logged on a mere number of kilometers (would you believe 47 kms as of this writing since Feb?), fully satisfied in simply sitting beside it in the garage and admiring it! I have grown older since that first time and no longer have the daredevil attitude sometimes needed to handle such machines here. This may well be my last bike and I’ll be happy if I can pass it on to my son unscathed someday.
Riding it occasionally and feeling that engineering work for me is a pleasure I still can’t fully describe (but am sure is well known to most of you)! But as I go down that road in life, feeling the boxer engine work it’s magic, I can be thankful that some of the simpler pleasures have been made achievable for me.
P.S. i’m an aviation electronics and communications engineer and have such a very wide range of interests you won’t believe. Thanks for reading about me!
