ABOUT ME
My name is Rob Courter. I grew up in Sacramento, California where I rode dirtbikes with my buddies before buying my first (used) R75/5 at 18. I didn’t want my Mom to see it so I parked it on the side of the house. My Dad found it first, he liked it. Mom saw it later; it was a showdown but I won. Now I live in Raleigh, NC and ride a nice 05 R12RT. I tried to hide that from my Mom, too. I’m East Coast Service Manager for an instrument company. I am 45 as of 2008.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the battery works later on, you're fine. If not, replace it then, not now.
You might read this thread, too. A lot of guys remove their batteries and do other things:

My R12RT gets about 38 in the aggressive twisties. Normal street riding I get about 43.

I just calculated that if i continue to pack it on like I did this December, I should be tipping the scales at about 1000 pounds by the end of 2009!
