ABOUT ME

I started riding on the road when I was 15 here in Michigan. I didn’t waste around much. I started off with a 750 Triumph Bonneville. It was a great bike even with all the faults of a Brit bike. Wiped out the life savings to get it. And lucky for me that was all that got wiped out. I learned early to respect the power and fragility of motorcycles. Since then I’ve owned all manner of bikes. The most bizarre was a Suzuki RE-5 rotary engined bike. Too cool, no one ever knew quite what to think of that one. Favorites seem to come back to the Europeans. I’ve liked every Beemer I’ve owned. The /5’s were probably my happiest memories on two wheels. Although the very best one I’ve ever had is my present mount – an ‘02 R1150 RT. I am currently (2007) 46 years old. I am a toolmaker for an injection molding company and specialize in tool and mold repair. This really helps out when I need an impossible to find repair part for some old rescue project. I can just make one. I’m married with two kids, 18 and 19 years old. They are both in 1st year of college. By the way, Epona was the celtic goddess of the horse (and who was adopted by the roman cavalry).

01/06/09 - Re: MPG

My '02 R1150Rt gets 48 no matter what (almost). The best I got was 52. Running 94 octane with the temp around 75 f.  It does make a difference when I have to use low octane and alcohol infused fuel. I can lose as much as 8 to 10 mpg. My baby does not like cheap gas, and definately hates alchohol.

My '07 R1200S gets an honest 45 mpg if I'm just riding it. But that drops off the map when I start riding it like I stole it.

My '71 R60/5 gets about 60 mpg, ...

Thanks for the photos Stevie. That green stuff, uh whaddia call that... I'm trying to remember... oh ya- Grass! That's it, almost forgot. Keep those pictures coming. I've only got about 10 weeks to go until I get to go to the Florida keys with my RT. I need to know theres green out there somewhere.

It's 3 (count 'em) degrees farenheight. My deck keeps contracting from the cold and when it does it sounds like a car hits the house. BANG! Scares the poo out of ...

Hey Vanman, Glad you like the photos. Those extensions help keep things (like other riders) from getting "engaged" in the wheels, as well as keeping the studs from nailing the spectators. The spikes, cleats or studs that are used in the tires for traction are quite long. Look at that Gixxer's front tire closley. They can tend to fly out of the tires once in a while, as well as pick things up from the surface of the track. A lot of the guys that I know who flat track race al...
